Business

Nykyta Izmaylov is the founder of Ukraine’s first specialized fintech fund — N1, which focuses on fintech and related industries. The fund’s portfolio includes seven fintech companies, among which are market leaders in Ukraine and Europe in terms of transaction volumes.

The fund focuses on fintech startups and technological teams with potentially profitable, easily scalable ideas and solutions.

As Nykyta Izmaylov notes, the war forced many plans and projects to be adjusted. For instance, in June N1 invested half a million dollars in a financial-tech startup that, in Izmaylov’s opinion, would have been worth at least $2.5 million if not for the war.

Another project he was interested in was valued at $7 million before the war, but after the invasion its price fell to $1 million.

In October 2022, the N1 fintech fund, together with the Ukrainian Startup Fund, launched an investment program for fintech startups. Investment amounts for selected projects range from $50,000 to $1 million. Projects at various stages will be considered — from working solutions to stable businesses requiring scaling.

International Activity

As one of the leading specialists in the fintech industry, Nykyta Izmaylov frequently speaks at international conferences and provides commentary to Western media.

In September 2022, he took part in two major fintech conferences in New York — Finovate and Salt. “Finovate has a rather unusual format. Half of the stage time is dedicated to product and startup demos. The remaining time is split equally — 25% panel discussions and 25% presentations of successful projects.

This year’s conference was mostly focused on cryptocurrency, open banking, and digital banks. As for the Salt conference, it gathers major investors focused on cryptocurrency, food and biotechnology, Web 3.0, and more,” commented Izmaylov.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Izmaylov also noted that the only factor currently holding back interest in Ukraine is the ongoing war. Immediately after the war ends, an investment boom in Ukrainian startups is expected.

“Western venture funds are still keeping their distance because war is a major risk for them. On the other hand, the potential reward is quite high. Ukrainian businesses are also interested in cooperation with foreign investors. For some startups, raising foreign investment offers advantages, including higher valuations compared to domestic funds, more thorough due diligence, and partners who can serve as a bridge to future investors — something many Ukrainian startups struggle with,” Izmaylov said.

Social Responsibility

Nykyta Izmaylov is one of the main sponsors of the U-Hero Charitable Foundation, which is creating a network of laser training ranges for training Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel. According to the project’s initiators, the state has saved around €32 million on training grenade launcher operators alone. Meanwhile, donors have already invested about $700,000 in the project and continue to expand it.
